About the Item

This French lantern, dating to circa 1900, is crafted in painted tôle and distinguished by its elegant, vertically oriented cylindrical form. The upper section is surmounted by a domed cap and encircled by a finely pierced crown gallery, adding a decorative and architectural refinement characteristic of French exterior lighting of the period. The painted surface presents a soft, time-worn patina in pale grey tones, allowing subtle variations and wear to enhance the overall character without detracting from its cohesion. The crown’s openwork detail introduces a delicate rhythm around the circumference, balancing the simplicity of the glazed body below. The lantern is fitted with curved glass panels, creating a continuous enclosure that allows light to diffuse evenly. The interior houses three candle-style lights arranged around a central stem, providing balanced illumination. Suspended from a chain with brass hardware and professionally wired for use in the United States, the lantern is ready for installation. Four examples are available and are priced and sold individually, offering the opportunity for a cohesive grouping.
