DESCRIPTION: Olympic Torch, Munich 1972 by Friedrich Krupp AG, Circa 1970, Germany
Stainless Steel, made by Friedrich Krupp AG, Olympiagas / Hagri Germany.
Gas Powered
CONDITION: Good condition. Wear consistent with age and use.
DIMENSIONS: Height: 72cm (28in) Diameter: 21cm (8in).
ABOUT THE TORCH: Official torch of the XX Summer Olympic Games.
Made of stainless steel in three parts, including a handle featuring the Olympic rings, a guard engraved with the Games logo featuring a spiral symbolizing the spirit of the Games (light, freshness and generosity) and a long tube-shaped furnace.
Starting in Olympia, the relay covered more than 5,500 km with nearly 6,000 torchbearers who took turns carrying the sacred fire for 29 days.
The torch bears the inscription “Spiele der XX Olympiad München 1972” and the Olympic rings on its handle. On a platform at the base of the combustion tube is the emblem of the Games. The torch is presented on a metal stand. The torch includes its original styrofoam box.
