About the Item

A fine scale model of a vintage English miner's lamp or inspector's safety lantern of brass in working order. Inscription reads: "Sir Humphry Davy 1778 - 1829" This scale model of a larger miner's lantern was given to a coal miner as a retirement gift. Upon purchase, it can be electrified by a professional electrician for use as a table lamp or lighting feature. Sir Humphry Davy, 1st Baronet, FRS, MRIA, FGS (17 December 1778 – 29 May 1829) was a British chemist and inventor who invented the Davy lamp and a very early form of arc lamp. He is also remembered for isolating, by using electricity, several elements for the first time: potassium and sodium.
