Alfredo Barbini (1912–2007), a glass artist born in 1912 on the islands of Murano in the lagoon of Venice, Italy, was one of Murano's leading figures of the 20th century. His parents were members of families, which had been prominent in the glassmaking industry on Murano for generations as glassblowers and beadmakers.

These pieces are exemplary of Italian craftsmanship and design, made from hand-blown Murano glass — with a smooth opaline center framed by a beautifully curved turquoise-blue rim. Two small decorative glass dots near the top add a playful touch of artisanal detail. The glass shades are mounted on sharply angled, black V-shaped metal bases that provide a bold architectural contrast to the softness of the glass. Behind each bulb lies a hammered reflector surface that helps diffuse the light evenly. When lit, these sconces produce a warm, atmospheric glow with a delicate blue halo cast onto the wall — a classic Murano lighting effect that transforms the space with elegance and subtle drama.
