About the Item

Pair of midcentury sconces attributed to Jacques Biny circa 1950 Era Perriand Magnificent pair of midcentury sconces in brass and beige lacquered metal, featuring flower shapes. The elements of which they are made, and in particular the base, are exactly the same design, the same materials (brass-plated metal, beige lacquered metal) as well as the same electrical system, as the famous Jacques Biny wall lights. The opaline work is very original with an origami shape. The sconces diffuse a very soft light. The sconces are in good condition with some age marks. Jacques Biny is a major French lighting designer of the "Trente Glorieuses" period. He collaborated with the best designers of his time such as Michel Buffet, Gustave Gauthier, Jean Boris Lacroix or Charles Ramos. Together, they started the adventure of modern lighting in series. Modern and pioneering, the "designer-publisher" created a sophisticated range of "rational lighting fixtures" for the home. Under his pencil, the forms progress and become more radical. The function and the sobriety of the lines are primordial: the object by its design is summarized in elementary and purified forms. For nearly thirty years, Jacques Biny has been working to develop his profession by perpetually questioning both the functionality of the models he creates and their lighting efficiency. In his words: "It is the search for the right balance between the rigors of technology and an aesthetic that integrates with contemporary architecture that has guided the creation of my lighting.
