About the Item

Circa 1960 · Opaline glass with floral etching, filigree aluminum fittings. The shape of the globe — flattened, generous at the center, contained at the ends — carries something of an oriental lantern and something of ripe fruit. A silhouette that doesn't fully belong to any single era, and for that reason survives them all. The opaline glass bears a discreet floral motif: small clusters of flowers and leaves traced directly onto the frosted glass, visible at rest and fully revealed when light passes through the globe. It is not added decoration: it is part of the material itself. The pierced aluminum rings that crown and close the globe — above and below — frame the glass with a filigree of scrollwork that contrasts with the softness of the opaline. The fixture hangs from a dark chain and twisted cord, completing the piece with an austerity that balances the ornament of the glass. When lit, warm light filters through the opaline with a softness that modern glass cannot replicate. The filigree casts subtle shadows around it. The space transforms. Offered as an original matching pair, in consistent condition between both pieces. Both have been fitted with new wiring and electrical components.
