About the Item

'Poliedri' Sconces by Carlo Scarpa for Venini, Italy, 1958-1960 A rare and historically significant wall sconce by Carlo Scarpa for Venini, the Poliedri modules - individual hand-blown smoked glass polyhedra, each faceted and distinct - are arranged across several tiers on an aged enameled and brass structure, the overall composition reading as a single luminous mass. The Poliedri modules were first introduced as components of the monumental Venini chandelier presented at the 1958 Brussels World's Fair, installed in the central hall of the Italian Pavilion. The same module was later used for the celebrated cascade chandelier created with Carlo Scarpa for the Turin "Italia '61" Expo. These wall sconces belong to that same body of work. Lit, the smoked glass transforms - warm amber light breaking through each faceted plane, the depth of the glass amplifying rather than diffusing the glow. Rewired for U.S. standards. Accommodates 2x E12 sockets on the medium size and 4x E12 sockets on the large size; we recommend a maximum of 40W or LED equivalent. Available in multiple sizes as below. (1) Medium: W9.5" x D7" x H16.5" - 20 polyhedral glass elements (ON HOLD - please ask before purchase) (1) Large: W14" x D9.5" x H20.5" - 32 polyhedral glass elements Please Note: Message our gallery to determine which sizes are available. Limited singular and sets available. You may find the small size (see image gallery) in a separate listing here: LU794749993472 - Small: W11" x D6" x H13.75" - 14 polyhedral glass elements.
