About the Item

Rare Large Pair of Carlo Scarpa Reticello Murano Glass Sconces for VeniniAn exceptionally rare and unusually large pair of wall sconces designed by Carlo Scarpa for Venini, Murano, circa 1940s. Each sconce features a generously proportioned hemispherical bowl hand-blown in clear Murano glass and worked with the sophisticated reticello technique. Fine lattimo glass threads intersect across the entire surface, creating a remarkably precise diamond-patterned lattice. When illuminated, this intricate structure captures and refracts the light, casting a soft atmospheric glow together with delicate geometric reflections across the surrounding wall. The sculptural glass bowls rest on striking original brass mounts of distinctly architectural character. Rectangular wall plates support projecting folded-brass arms, defined by strong angular profiles and faceted ends. Shaped brass cups elegantly cradle the glass from below, creating a refined contrast between the delicacy of the reticello workmanship and the rigorous geometry of the metal structure. The brass has been deliberately preserved with its beautiful original patina, displaying warm tonal variations and subtle traces of age that enhance the authenticity and character of the pair. The sconces have already been professionally rewired for use in the United States and are fitted with one standard E26 Edison socket each. Dimensions per sconce: Glass bowl diameter: 23 cm / 9.06 in Overall depth: 25 cm / 9.84 in Overall height: 16 cm / 6.30 in Very good vintage condition. The hand-blown glass retains the slight variations and tiny inclusions characteristic of artisanal Murano production. The brass mounts show an attractive age-related patina and minor wear consistent with their history.
