About the Item

Cone-shaped wall sconce in white glazed porcelain with a smooth, high-gloss finish. Decorative linear ribbing with small cut-outs on shade, allowing light to pass through and cast patterned shadows on surrounding surfaces. The socket housing sits at the apex of the cone and holds a European candelabra E14 socket. The form is sculptural and minimal, consistent with Mid-Century European ceramic lighting production. Ceramic and porcelain wall sconces of this type were widely produced across Europe — particularly in Germany, Italy, and Scandinavia — during the postwar decades. Manufacturers experimented with glazed ceramic as both a functional and decorative material for residential lighting, using slip casting to achieve clean, repeatable forms. The combination of a simple geometric body with decorative cut-outs was a common design strategy of the period, balancing restraint with visual interest. Similar examples are available separately (LU922449774412). Shows age cracking to the glaze consistent with age and use. Otherwise well-preserved.
