About the Item

An elegant British Arts & Crafts table lamp dating to circa 1925, featuring a richly ornamented bronze body and an impressive hand-moulded glass shade. The substantial bronze base is decorated throughout with classical and figural relief detailing, rising through a tapered ornamental body to a fluted central column. The combination of sculptural decoration and architectural proportions gives the lamp a particularly distinctive period character. Above sits the original-style ventilated bronze gallery, supporting a beautifully moulded acorn-shaped glass shade. The softly marbled, frosted glass incorporates geometric and architectural detailing characteristic of early 20th-century decorative lighting and produces an attractive diffused glow when illuminated. A highly decorative example of British period lighting, combining Arts & Crafts craftsmanship with elements of the emerging Art Deco aesthetic. The lamp has been professionally rewired and incorporates a B22 bayonet-fit bulb holder.
