About the Item

Striking Italian table lamp from the 1960s, featuring a sculptural hand-crafted Murano glass base executed using the traditional sommerso technique. The elongated, gently tapered body is composed of layers of rich ruby-red and clear glass, creating a remarkable sense of depth and transparency. The colored glass appears suspended within the transparent outer layer, a characteristic effect of the sommerso technique developed and widely used by Murano glassmakers during the mid-20th century. The Murano glass body is complemented by a fabric lampshade upholstered in white cotton decorated with an irregular black polka-dot pattern, creating a graphic contrast with the saturated red glass. A distinctive example of 1960s Italian decorative lighting, combining traditional Venetian glassmaking craftsmanship with the clean sculptural forms associated with Mid-Century Italian design.
