About the Item

Produced in Italy in the 1970s, this table lamp is built around a solid oak square base with pronounced open grain and a warm golden-brown tone. A circular cutout dominates the face of the base, framing a suspended wood cube trimmed in brushed steel. A brushed steel cylindrical stem rises through the center of the composition, connecting the base to a newly recovered cream drum shade. The lamp reflects the Italian Modernist preoccupation with geometric form and material contrast prevalent during the 1970s. Designers working in this period frequently explored the tension between natural wood and industrial metal finishes, producing objects with a sculptural presence. The layered geometry — square, circle, cube — gives the base a structural rigor typical of the era. Wear is consistent with age and use. The shade is vintage and newly recovered.
