About the Item

Created in Italy in the early 1970s, this Toucan table lamp by Enea Ferrari for Old Timer Ferrari is an important example of the playful wave of Space Age design that emerged across Europe at the time. Crafted in molded plastic-a material central to the period's exploration of color, form and accessibility-the lamp combines a bright red body with a yellow base and a softly curved cream beak, producing a stylised interpretation of a toucan. Originally conceived as a children's light, the piece quickly transcended its category, becoming a collectible emblem of Italian post-modern attitudes toward humor and domestic objects. Ferrari's work is increasingly recognized for its early adoption of expressive silhouettes within functional lighting. This vintage specimen remains in very good condition with signs of age visible upon close inspection (small marks; the use of an overly hot bulb caused some darkening of the neck and a slight deformation of the red body) and retains its original wiring. It uses a small E14 bulb and is compatible with 110/220V systems.
