About the Item

Vintage Chinoiserie table lamp features an urn shaped ceramic or porcelain body with faux bamboo decor, forming a strong geometric trim in Chinese Chippendale style. The octagonal base accentuates the lobed form of the urn, with highly detailed trellises juxtaposed with larger faux bamboo panels; the buttery yellow glaze and mocha brown faux bamboo accents for a cohesive, organic color palette that is emphasized by the monochromatic base and top elements. The lamp is in fully operational, very good vintage condition; it is not signed and is missing the distributor stickers, but the original plug dates it to 1960s-1970s. Similar lamps were created both in Italy and in USA in Mid 20th century; the American companies were responding to the continuing popularity of Chinoiserie style and the inclusion or Chinoiserie and Chippendale elements in Hollywood Regency style interiors of the time. The Chinese Chippendale style was also popular in Italy in 1960s, and fine examples of Italian designs were produced by multiple companies, including the luxury furniture company Vivai Del Sud, which made both furniture and decor items, such as lamps, in this style. However, it is hard to definitively attribute the lamp to a particular maker without the stickers. The elegant, sculptural form, high quality craftsmanship, universally appealing color palette and aesthetic, and traditional Chinoiserie style will make the lamp a great gift to a collector or a design enthusiast and a perfect addition to a wide range of interiors, from Traditional to Eclectic, Transitional, Modern Country, Hollywood Regency, Glam, Palm Beach, English Cottage, Modern Country, Collected, or Contemporary. Height to the top of the socket is 23.75"
