About the Item

Tall French Hollywood Regency faux tortoiseshell high-gloss ceramic table lamp, circa 1970s — quintessential Parisian glamour. Paired with a new black oval fabric lampshade. Can be fitted with US or international plug of your choice. The ceramic base carries a rich, painterly glaze that pools and swirls in shades of amber and dark brown to create a convincing faux tortoiseshell effect. The high-gloss finish shifts character as it catches light, moving from warm amber to near-black depending on the angle. The base is set between glossy black-lacquered turned fittings at the neck and stepped circular foot, with two cream-colored rings providing a crisp tonal contrast at each junction — a refined detail that ties the composition together. The new black oval shade, with its fine vertical rib texture, completes the piece with a graphic, graphic black volume that plays off the warm depth of the glaze below. The underside carries a French electrical compliance label (en conformité c.71-111, classe II, 75W) with "Cheverny" written by hand — possibly a maker or retailer reference, though attribution cannot be confirmed.
