WoW! 1955 Porcelain Mid Century Modern Atomic Modern Table Lamp Black White and Gold Squiggle/Splatter Design Populuxe Styling! Dimensions: 28" tall by 18" wide This magnificent 1950s table lamp is an iconic example of the black, white and gold theme that brought 50s elegance and "modernist fun" to the designs of interiors of the period! Squiggles, splatters and flourishes in gold and enamel! It's hard today to comprehend just how vastly different these lamps were than those which were being sold in the forties. These were revolutionary and "modern" and after only a decade, these type of lamps would be gone, because they displayed too much exuberance and individuality! Traditional designs would come back and now these 1950s "mid century modern" lamps are rare treasures indeed! Restaurants, motels and the everyday homes throughout America would embrace this style and lamps like this one defined "popular luxury" which would later be defined as "Populuxe" styling. In the late 80s, people first started to realize these artifacts of the mid century had great emotional and physical value for their optimism and cultural innocence. This gorgeous lamp is a surviving example of Populuxe styling! In fine vintage condition, Age appropriate wear to lamp including significant wear/tarnish to the brushed brass metal base. Displays beautifully! Now, these items are more coveted than ever and people realize this era of American made opulence and fun will likely never come again and surviving furnishings are now valuable commodities. They open a window to the past and bring some of that glorious mid century optimism with them! A design treasure for your NY penthouse, Palm Springs atomic ranch or West Palm Beach estate!
