About the Item

A rare and evocative piece of 1970s French Studio Pottery, this organic table lamp is a masterclass in naturalistic design. Hand-signed and dated "03/77" by the artist Didier, this sculptural work captures the essence of the mid-century "Return to Nature" movement, blending raw earth elements with artisanal craftsmanship. The ceramic base features a biomorphic, asymmetrical form—reminiscent of a sun-baked gourd or a river stone. It is deeply embossed with a stylized ammonite or sunburst spiral, adding a primitive, almost archeological depth to the piece. The glaze is a rich, matte terracotta with earthy ochre undertones, providing a warm, tactile presence. The bespoke lampshade is a centerpiece in its own right. Crafted from heavy-textured artisanal paper with genuine leaf inclusions, it features a unique fringe of dried seed pods suspended by hand-tied raffia cords. When illuminated, the lamp casts a soft, dappled amber glow, highlighting the intricate organic textures of the shade and the sculptural silhouette of the base. The lamp is in excellent vintage condition. The ceramic base is free of any cracks, chips, or repairs. The artisanal lampshade and its delicate organic elements have been remarkably well-preserved over the decades. Original wiring is functional (professional rewiring recommended for international standards). Creator: Didier (Signed and dated "03/77" on the base) Period: 1970-1979 Date of Manufacture: March 1977 Origin: France Materials: Glazed Ceramic, Handmade Paper with Leaf Inclusions, Natural Seed Pods, Raffia. It offers a poetic balance between French studio art and the raw beauty of the natural world, making it a standout statement piece for high-end interiors.
