Jean Prouvé Style Swivelling Table Lamp

About the Item

Extremely rare beautifully colored and patinated table light in the style of the great French designer Jean Prouvé. The stand of the lamp consists of a downsized Jean Prouvé style swivelling stool base, complete with the height adjustment-knob like you find on the stool too. The knob is inscripted with the manufacturer's name Experfi and the address: 68, Rue Pierre Charron. Paris. It also mentions: Breveté S.G.D.G. ("Sans Garanti du Gouvernement") and the license number 542615. This is a license that the French government issued for Industrial products until the year 1963. The shade of the lamp has the diamond shaped manufacturers tag on it, though a little faded you can read "Lumil". By using the knob you can adjust the height of the shade from 42 cm (16.5 inches) high to 57 cm (22.5 inches) high. The arm of the lamp can swing 360 degrees around in the base, with the know you can fix it in any position. The rod itself where the shade is mounted on, has the same degree bend or angle at the tip as Prouvé's most famous light-design "Potence d'Eclairage' or Potence; the famous Swing Jib wall-mounted light that he designed in the early 1950s. If you look at detailed pictures of the Potence-lamp, you'll find several small parts identical; there's the same shaped ring for instance that screws on the light fitting - which is the typical French bayonet-mount light fitting. It is a beautiful eye-catching Industrial piece with wonderful different shades of old Industrial green and a great patina that shows the age and authenticity of the piece. It comes with the bulb and has been rewired with old-fashioned new black cotton-wire and is ready to light up any (midcentury) design interior.
