About the Item

Large illuminated Art Deco bronze “Clarity” In 1928, Max Le Verrier created his famous sculpture “Clarte,” a woman with a sphere, a torch of the 1930s. He drew on the idea of the ancient goddess of light and symbolized the era through both her boyish hairstyle and the clean lines of her work. He created the sculpture in his small workshop from a live model. In fact, Max was very particular and required three different models: for the head with its pointed, straight nose and bobbed haircut, he used his cousin. Additionally, the legs of a dancer from Josephine Baker’s ballets were immortalized. The bust, however, remained a secret. The work was on display from May to August 1985 in the “Lumières” exhibition at the Centre Georges Pompidou. It was also shown in 1987 in the “Made in France” exhibition at Harrods in London. Moreover, it was featured in the “De Main de Maitre” exhibition at the Grand Palais.
