About the Item

Light sculpture Mandalay is a light sculpture formed of two spheres of blown glass using the overlay technique, which consists of superimposing several layers of glass before cutting them cold with a diamond tip. The interior of the spheres is covered with opaline, which gives them their luminosity. Both parts are equipped with a led light source. Unique piece About the designer Xavier Lenormand, a glassblower for twenty-five years and winner of the Bettencourt Prize for manual dexterity, creates poetic works inspired by nature, the cosmos and the seabed. In 2021, he moved to the Dordogne region, where he set up a large studio and developed an artistic identity based on glassblowing and cold cutting. Xavier Lenormand draws inspiration from nature, which he considers a source of perfection and humility. His maritime memories of Saint Malo feed his intuition and imagination. His work, deeply connected to the cosmos, the seabed, and luminous phenomena, seeks to express the movement of life and the fragility of childhood. He sculpts, chisels, engraves, and prints glass, a material he believes capable of transforming the unreal into objects, inviting us through his sculptures to dream and marvel.
