About the Item

Earthy and warm, this one-of-a-kind ceramic table lamp pairs a rounded relief base with Bitossi-style incised banding in a natural palette of primarily moss green and ochre with a new custom lampshade. Newly wired for U.S. use. International plug customization available at no charge. Height includes lampshade. The base is built around a generous rounded body that swells at the belly and draws into a short flaring neck, a soft, sculptural shape that gives the banded ornament a curving canvas. Arches, herringbone, scrolls, and beaded rows wrap the form and shift between glossy moss green and warm ochre as they turn. It is the stamped, incised relief vocabulary that made Aldo Londi's Bitossi ceramics so recognizable, carried out here in the earth tones of West German production rather than the Italian Rimini blue, and the geometry reads as confidently bohemian as it does mid-century. Above it sits a new empire-form shade in a textured oatmeal weave trimmed in soft ochre. The cooler neutral of the linen-toned fabric lets the green and ochre glazes carry the color, a quietly earthy pairing suited to the warm, natural palette. The piece is in excellent condition About Bay Keramik Founded in Ransbach-Baumbach in 1933 by Eduard Bay, Bay Keramik grew into one of West Germany's most productive art potteries during the postwar decades. The Kannenbäckerland region around the factory holds some of Europe's richest clay deposits, and Bay built its reputation there on sculptural molded forms and saturated glazes — relief work that drew openly on the incised, geometric style of Italian makers such as Bitossi. Pieces carry a molded mark noting form and height in centimeters, and the banded ochre-and-green designs the firm produced through the 1960s and 1970s are especially sought after by collectors today. About Amitābha Studio Amitābha Studio is a design atelier dedicated to transforming historic ceramics into one-of-a-kind lighting objects.
