About the Item

Hala Zeist produced some of the most characterful Mid-Century lighting to come out of the Netherlands, and this clip-and-wall reading lamp is a fine example of the brand's knack for combining utility with color. The enameled aqua blue conical shade features decorative perforated star detailing near its rim, casting a warm and playful light. A flexible brass gooseneck arm connects the shade to a matte black angular mount, and the mount's folded lower edge was specifically designed to hook over a headboard or display rack — giving it genuine flexibility as either a wall-mounted or clipped lamp. A push-button switch is built into the mount for easy operation. The aqua shade is a signature color associated with Hala Zeist's postwar output, and the combination of the black chevron-shaped bracket, coiled brass arm, and punched star shade details makes this lamp immediately recognizable to collectors of Dutch Mid-Century lighting. Shown alongside a similar Hala lamp and a TOMADO multicolored shelving unit in the seller's images, it reads well in company with other Dutch design of the era. Condition is original throughout, with wear consistent with age and use. The shade retains strong color and the gooseneck remains poseable.
