About George Kovacs George Kovacs, born in 1926 in Vienna, Austria, was a pioneering figure in modern lighting design. The steel frame and base shows only minor nicks in the paint the worst of which can be seen in the detail photos provided. The lamp includes a functioning bulb seen in photos and both switches (with both high and low light settings) work exactly as they should.
