About the Item

An exceptional and rare artist-signed Rosenthal porcelain and brass table lamp, created in Germany circa the 1920s, representing the highest level of luxury decorative arts of its period. The magnificent porcelain body was produced by the renowned Rosenthal art department and features a deep cobalt-blue glaze with an elaborate raised gold decoration. The highly detailed ornamental work depicts a graceful bird surrounded by grape clusters, leaves and botanical motifs — symbols traditionally associated with abundance, beauty and harmony. The decoration demonstrates remarkable craftsmanship with finely engraved and relief-like gilded details, giving the surface extraordinary depth and brilliance. Rosenthal was founded in 1879 by Philipp Rosenthal and became one of Germany’s most prestigious porcelain manufacturers, famous for combining traditional craftsmanship with outstanding artistic design. Before the political changes of the 1930s and the forced removal of the Rosenthal family from control of their company under the Nazi regime, Rosenthal represented some of the finest European luxury porcelain production. This lamp dates from that earlier period of exceptional artistic quality. The porcelain body is combined with beautifully aged solid brass elements showing a wonderful original patina. The elegant architectural brass construction perfectly complements the richness of the cobalt and gold porcelain. The lamp retains its original upper brass mechanism with an integrated rotary switch. The light is turned on and off by turning the upper finial element. The original lampshade is no longer present. Historically, the shade would have rested directly on the upper brass rim surrounding the switch mechanism. We believe the ideal solution is for the new owner to commission a custom-made lampshade perfectly matching their personal interior style and the elegance of this unique piece. A rare collector’s lamp combining Rosenthal porcelain artistry, luxurious materials and early 20th-century German craftsmanship. Condition: Very good antique condition with age-related patina. The brass shows natural oxidation and character from age. The porcelain decoration remains highly impressive with beautiful depth and brilliance.
