One of a Kind pair of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza handcrafted table lamps in hand forged iron. Spain, 1940s-1950s. Rare find. These stunning table lamps feature the main characters of one of the most famous spanish novel, Don Quixote ( Miguel de Cervantes ) These sculptural Quixote and Sancho table lamps were finely constructed with pieces of iron. Terrific aged original patina. Finished in gold leaf gilding. They combine Spanish Colonial and Brutalist accents. Wearing their original paper lampshades with fringe on the bottom. The lampshades have printed the introduction of the novel " En un lugar de la Mancha de cuyo nombre no puedo acordarme..." On sale as a pair. Newly wired. Originally conceived as a parody of the chivalric romances that had long been in literary vogue, it describes realistically what befalls an aging knight who, his head bemused by reading such romances, sets out on his old horse Rocinante, with his pragmatic squire, Sancho Panza, to seek adventure. Widely and immediately translated (first English translation 1612), the novel was a great and continuing success and is considered a prototype of the modern novel.

Rewired: Newly wired with 1 E27 bulb socket each. Wear consistent with age and use. Nice patina and original gold leaf gilding. The lampshades have repairs and broken parts on the paper surface ( one is in better condition than the other. We have preserved them as they are the original ones ).
