About the Item

Hand-painted Talavera ceramic table lamp in blue white and saffron yellow orange, an urn-form vase hand-painted in Talavera de la Reina, Spain, with a new white silk pleated lampshade. Newly wired for U.S. use. International plug customization available at no charge. Height includes lampshade. The design is Renaissance in derivation, the vocabulary Talavera has drawn on since the sixteenth century, and it is brushed freehand. The foot is signed by hand in cobalt beneath the glaze, Alférez · Talavera, for Cerámica Artística Alférez, a renowned workshop in Talavera de la Reina. About Cerámica Artística Alférez Cerámica Artística Alférez, under the artistic direction of Antonio José Alférez, is one of more than thirty workshops still active in Talavera de la Reina, in the province of Toledo, the community whose living traditions, expressions, knowledge, and skills passed down through generations are now safeguarded under UNESCO's list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. Apart from electric kilns and wheels, the clay preparation, glazing and painting are what they were four hundred years ago.
