Willy Rizzo was a remarkable Italian photographer turned furniture and lighting designer whose work bridged glamour, modernity, and functional art. Born in Naples in 1928, Rizzo first made his name in Paris as a photographer for magazines like Paris Match and Vogue, capturing iconic portraits of celebrities including Marilyn Monroe, Pablo Picasso, and Salvador Dalí. Later, in the late 1960s and early 1970s, he transitioned into design almost serendipitously when furnishing his own home in Rome. His eye for elegant, luxurious objects quickly drew attention, leading to a successful design career characterized by handmade pieces that combined modern lines with high‑end materials. Among his most celebrated design achievements is the “Love” Lamp — a lighting piece that exemplifies Rizzo’s unique blend of sculpture and utility. Produced in the late 1960s and 1970s, the Love Lamp series includes variants such as round, square, and other geometric forms.
