About the Item

Beautifully crafted screen with the original beveled mirror. For the collectors of top quality Black Forest home accessories we also have this stunning and one of a kind fire-place screen. The incredibly detailed frame consisting of very realistic branches and leafs is an absolute joy to own and look at. The deeper meaning of this work of Black Forest craftsmanship, we think, can be found in the birds nest in the centre of the top. There the little bird is creating a warm home too for the three offspring she is expecting (hence the three eggs in the nest). Apart from quality made and meaningful this large size example of mid to late 19th century workmanship also has the most beautiful patina. The antique beveled mirror has some weathering, but the overall condition is very good and this sizeable and artistic screen will never fail to impress. For those who did not yet know, this elaborate and very skillfully made screen was actually used as a work of art in the spring and in the summertime. It would be placed in front of the opening of the fireplace, because this top quality antique would be much nicer to look at then the blackened inside of the fireplace. Obviously they would only be owned by people with very deep pockets, because only very few people lived in large houses with big fireplaces.
