About the Item

Cristal Art large round wall mirror, Model 2679, in hand-cut beveled aquamarine crystal and brass, Italy, 1950s. This exquisite elegant mirror features a broad decorative surround composed of individually cut aquamarine-colored crystal segments arranged continuously around the circular frame. Each crystal element is finely beveled along its edges, creating a jewel-like play of light and adding depth and dimension to the otherwise restrained geometric composition. The aquamarine crystal border is framed between slender concentric bands of warm brass, creating an elegant contrast between the cool translucent coloration of the crystal and the rich golden tone of the metal. A large clear circular mirrored plate occupies the center, allowing the faceted crystal surround to remain the principal decorative feature. The rhythmic arrangement of the individually beveled crystal elements gives the mirror an architectural quality while maintaining the refined lightness characteristic of Italian decorative design of the period. Viewed from different angles, the beveled surfaces catch and refract the surrounding light, subtly emphasizing the aquamarine coloration and faceted construction. With its generous scale, clean circular form, and sophisticated combination of crystal and brass, Model 2679 is a distinctive iconic example of Cristal Art's mid-century mirror production. Established in 1944, Cristal Art was a plate glass manufacturing company in the artisan tradition founded by Giuseppe and Giovanni Donna. in Turin, Italy, Cristal Art specialized in modern design and creation of crystal furniture and mirrors. From the 1950s to the 1980s, Cristal Art competed with other reputable glass plate manufacturing companies Fontana Arte and Sant'Ambrogio & De Berti in Italy.
