About the Item

Pair of antique mirror wall sconces with integrated candelabras. This matching pair of antique sconces is ideal for wall decoration and the look and feel is just wonderful. The impressive, cast bronze heads on top are so called 'green men'. They are a symbol dating back to 400 AD and they are known to have been used in many cultures in Europe, America and Asia. They -among other things- Stand for fertility and rebirth. Other striking features are the heads with the open mouths from which the three armed candelabras sprout. Also typical to the Renaissance Revival are the beautiful scrolling branches with Fine flowers and shell motives. Together they make this pair of quality antiques very impressive and an absolute joy to own and look at. Thanks to a strong and integrated 'ring' in the back this rare pair can easily and safely be hung on your wall and enjoyed for decades by you and probably for centuries by generations to come. Both antique mirrors have a little wear to the silvered backs. The mirror on the right, in the top right corner (see image 1 and 6) and the mirror on the left has some 'flakes' spread across (image 4) entirely consistent with age. Small holes were at some point made into the bobeches and into the candle holders. Former owners may have considered making these sconces electrical, but we are happy they did not. Finally, there is an imprint of what seems to be a makers' mark on one of the backs (image 5). Unfortunately we cannot read what it says, but the makers must have been proud to put their name on these works of art and rightly so.
