About the Item

Magnificent and extremely rare pair of mid-century wall-mounted nightstands or shelves in solid gilt brass and thick hammered turquoise glass. This marvelous set is attributed to the mastery of Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte and was produced in Italy during the 1960s. Fully original and in fabulous condition, with no chips or cracks. This exceptional pair perfectly reflects the refined aesthetic of Max Ingrand, combining sculptural elegance with luxurious materials. The vibrant, jewel-like tone of the glass contrasts beautifully with the warm brass structure, creating a luminous and refined visual effect. The structure is entirely crafted in solid brass, with gracefully curved supports and a warm golden tone that beautifully matches the vibrant turquoise crystal. The tops are made of thick turquoise glass, expertly hammered and polished, featuring a distinctive irregular reverse shape specifically designed to be mounted on either side of a bed. This mirrored asymmetry is a highly sophisticated detail, allowing the pieces to function seamlessly as floating bedside tables or elegant wall-mounted shelves. A rare and highly collectible set, perfect for elevating mid-century modern, Hollywood Regency or contemporary interiors with a touch of Italian design excellence. Dimensions (cm / in): Width: 38 cm (14.96 in) Depth: 28 cm (11.02 in) Height: 27 cm (10.63 in) Provenance Private Collection, Rome Biography Max Ingrand (b.1908, Bressuire – d.1969, Paris) was a famous French master glass worker and decorator, also the artistic director of Fontana Arte for one decade, starting from 1954. During that time he came up with many design classics, such as the Fontana table lamp, still one of the best selling products for the company that bears its name. Having studied at the school of Fine Arts in Paris, he specialised in the decorative Arts, under the guidance of major artists such as Jacques Grüber and Charles Lemaresquier. He also produced a great number of stained glass panels for religious buildings, hotels and public places. Towards the end of his life he was awarded the French Legion of Honour in recognition of his achievements in design.
