Early 19th Century Georgian Pair of Dummy Boards. Pinewood with oil-painted fine details. Charming and scarce pieces, it took the owner a couple of years to find them. There is no agreement as to what the original purpose of the dummy boards was. But these unexpected house guests did have a reputation for being pleasant, polite, and quiet! Nonetheless, they were placed in halls, corridors, by fireplaces, as mere decorative articles or to scare away burglars near doors and windows. They make fun conversation pieces. Weight: Lady: 9 lbs.
