French seltzer bottle by Briet, Paris, ca 1860 A French gasogenic soda siphon, seltzer bottle by Briet, Paris. This double gourd shaped antique soda siphon is in good condition, it still has its original protective wicker cage surrounding the glass. The trigger is made from pewter and has the makers mark stamped. The foot made of porcelain. The gasogene (aka gazogene or seltzogene) produced carbonated water. The "BRIET" inscription, refers to Jean-Claude Briet, of Paris, who obtained a French patent on the form in 1841, and showed some examples at the London Crystal Palace exhibition of 1851. The height is 44 cm and the foot is 16 cm diagonal Not knowing if it still works, but certainly very decorative.
