Very well carved and superb condition, famous novel bookends. This wonderfully hand-carved pair of wooden bookends depicts two of literature’s most iconic figures: the noble and idealistic Don Quixote and his loyal, grounded companion Sancho Panza. Each figure is sculpted from solid wood with a warm patina that enhances the richness of the craftsmanship and the expressiveness of the characters. Don Quixote, tall and contemplative, is seated with a book in hand, one arm across his chest, as if moved by the romantic ideals that guide his quests. His upward gaze and proud posture evoke a sense of purpose and poetic longing. He is perched on what appears to be a stylized tree trunk, suggesting nature and resilience, fitting for a knight-errant lost in dreams. In contrast, Sancho Panza stands solidly on his feet, leaning on one leg in a relaxed yet pensive pose. With one hand resting on his hip and the other to his cheek, he radiates earthy wisdom and loyalty. His round form and calm demeanor are in perfect balance with Don Quixote’s angular and lofty attitude, a beautiful juxtaposition of fantasy and pragmatism.
