About the Item

Beautiful folding screen made from important 1804-1805 Joseph Dufour et Cie wallpaper. This wallpaper series is based on Captain Cook's travels in the South Pacific Ocean: Les Sauvages de la mer du Pacifique. The two present panels feature figures from the Marquesas in French Polynesia and Easter Island, set in a tropical landscape with palm trees and opaline waters. This is a very rare edition with a highly decorative trompe l'oeil frieze painted at the bottom. The wallpaper is set on canvas and mounted onto a folding wooden screen. The back is chic and simple design in sea foam green/blue. Each panel is 77 x 21 inches, combined size is 77 x 42 inches.
