About the Item

Beech frame with an ash-veneered storage compartment and a double front magazine rack. C1950s. A magazine rack featuring a beechwood frame and an ash-veneered compartment, characterized by arched side posts, tapered legs, and a double front rail designed to hold magazines and newspapers. The container's slanted design makes it easier to see the contents, while the open structure gives the piece a lighter, more airy appearance and highlights the grain pattern. In Italian cabinetmaking of the 1950s, beech was frequently used for structural components due to its strength and ease of working, while surfaces with more pronounced grain patterns helped enhance the design of the furniture. The traditional walnut stain, which was widely used in the postwar period, also made it possible to harmonize the colors of different types of wood, giving the furniture the characteristic warm hue now associated with many pieces from that era. In terms of its construction and use of proportions, the magazine rack evokes the design language of 1950s Italy and, in particular, certain works by Ico Parisi, in which slender structural elements and organic forms define objects with a light yet carefully considered presence. Good conditions. Potrebbe presentare dei segni del tempo. Please pay attention to the photographs. AG312

Midcentury Wood Italian Magazine Rack Attributed to Ico Parisi, 1950s

Lovely midcentury wood magazine rack. This fantastic item was produced in Italy during the 1950s and it is attributed to Ico Parisi. This piece is fantastic because of its luxurious materials: made of lacquered wood with glass side panels and visible brass screws finishes. A must-have for midcentury lovers in order to smarten a studio or an entrance hall. Ico Parisi was an Italian architect and designer. Born Domenico Parisi in 1916 in Palermo, Italy, he was involved in building construction and architecture in Como during his early adulthood. By the 1940s, Parisi took up filmmaking and began designing furniture in 1945, for which he would become most renowned. His designs are characterized by their Italian Mid-Century Modern aesthetic, constructed using soft woods often cut into boomerang-like shapes, augmented by metal slats and boldly colored upholstery. His most prolific period was the two decades that preceded 1965, when he married and formed a design team with his wife, Luisa Aiani, in 1948. He studied architecture between 1949–1952 under Alberto Sartoris...
