About the Item

A White Marble umbrella stand are hand-pierced with a continuous floral jali pattern — hundreds of interlocking openings that reference the architectural stone screens of Mughal palace architecture. Suitable as an umbrella stand, umbrella holder, hallway stand, entryway stand, cane stand, or decorative floor vessel. The form integrates naturally into Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, and Contemporary interiors. The piece begins as a solid block of White Marble from which the interior cavity is first hollowed. Artisans then carve the floral jali pattern directly through the stone walls, creating hundreds of interconnected openings that must remain structurally coherent throughout the process. Each opening is shaped and refined by hand, requiring careful control of wall thickness and spacing. The completed lattice allows light and air to pass freely through the vessel while preserving its strength. The surface is then hand-finished to emphasize both the carving and the natural qualities of the marble. Measuring 12"×9"×23"H, the piece functions as an umbrella stand, umbrella holder, hallway umbrella stand, entryway accessory, cane stand, walking-stick holder, or decorative floor vessel. The tall proportions provide capacity for umbrellas while maintaining a compact footprint. The openwork construction allows airflow around stored items. Made entirely to order. Designed by Stephanie Odegard for the Jour collection. The design draws on the jali tradition of India, where pierced stone screens have been used in palaces, temples, and garden architecture for centuries. This umbrella stand translates that architectural vocabulary into a functional domestic object while preserving the complexity and craftsmanship of traditional jali carving. Produced in Udaipur, Rajasthan by artisans specializing in hand-carved marble and openwork stone carving. Produced in Rajasthan. Customization is at the heart of what we do. Custom sizes, finishes, and bespoke designs are available upon request. Whether you are working from a sketch, technical drawing, reference image, or an initial concept, our team would be delighted to collaborate with you and help bring your vision to life. Made to order, each piece may show slight variations that are a natural result of handmade production in stone. Every block of marble or stone is unique, so colour, veining, and surface character will vary from piece to piece. The images shown in this listing may be photographed in different lighting conditions or may include illustrations created to represent the available stone options. We warmly encourage customers to request an individual sample or a complete sample set to experience the colour, tone, and character of each stone firsthand. None of our marble work is treated with an added finish, which allows the marble or stone to age naturally over time. If required, pieces can be coated with a suitable protective layer to help preserve their original look. Marble is somewhat like glass in that it is strong and long lasting when handled properly but can chip if mishandled. Pieces must never be rolled, pulled, pushed, or slid across any surface. All stone table tops and surfaces that come into contact with oily liquids or food are subject to permanent staining. Our solid marble pieces are durable and withstand typical weather conditions including high heat, rain, and freezing. Intricately carved or inlaid marble may be more vulnerable to extreme temperatures and freeze thaw cycles. Like any natural material, marble can be affected by acid rain and pollution over time. Natural stones may carry hidden variations that only appear during processing. Marble can have unexpected veining, sandstone may contain cavities, and even uniform slabs can have varying porosity that affects polish. While we select our materials carefully, a flawless stone cannot be guaranteed, and this natural variation is part of the character of every piece.
