About the Item

A rectangular bolster pillow, made out of an early 20th century Japanese Silk Obi. The Obi is the long sash that wraps around a kimono to fasten it to the body, which through history became a symbol of high status and a fashion statement, depending on the quality of the materials (especially silk), and the decorations embroidered in it. The Obi fabric used for this pillow, is gold brocade raw silk, soft and thick, with square raised pattern and floral motifs. The reverse is done in new raw silk in dark verdigris color, for an elegant effect. The Obi fabric itself is in pristine, like-new condition, despite its old age, circa 1929. 1-inch flange around the edges, with a layer of grey silk in between, where the hidden zipper is located. Pillow dimensions: 10" x 32". With flange: 12" x 34". Includes a brand new poly-dacron firm insert, shipped along with the pillow cover.
