About the Item

A luxurious Turkish decorative pillow featuring elaborate silver metallic sarma-style embroidery inspired by the sumptuous textile traditions of the Ottoman world. Handcrafted in Turkey circa 1990, this richly textured cushion combines an ivory linen ground with shimmering metallic embroidery in an intricate composition of scrolling foliage, stylized palmettes and arabesque motifs. The embroidery covers nearly the entire face of the pillow, creating an exceptionally decorative surface with the appearance of antique Ottoman metal-thread textiles. Raised silver-toned threads catch and reflect the light, emphasizing the dimensional quality of the pattern against the restrained neutral linen background. The design draws inspiration from the ornamental vocabulary associated with Ottoman palace textiles, Islamic decorative arts and Moorish interiors, where elaborate vegetal patterns, symmetry and metallic embellishment were used to create richly layered environments. At 17 inches square, the pillow is substantial enough to make a statement while remaining versatile for use on a sofa, lounge chair, daybed or layered arrangement of collected textiles. Its sophisticated ivory-and-silver palette allows it to work particularly well in interiors ranging from Mediterranean and Moorish to contemporary, eclectic and maximalist.
