This beautifully handcrafted cushion cover is made from a vintage Anatolian kilim—once part of a traditional yastik, or small decorative rug used in Turkish homes. Woven in the mid-20th century using hand-spun wool and natural dyes, the original textile showcases regional geometric motifs, vibrant yet earthy tones, and a richly textured flatweave structure emblematic of rural Central Anatolian craftsmanship.
In our workshop, we thoughtfully selected the undamaged sections from vintage or antique kilims that could no longer be repaired as complete pieces. These fragments, full of history and artistic integrity, are then reimagined as unique pillow covers. Much like cutting a scene from a painting, each cushion captures a distinct portion of the kilim’s story—whether a tribal medallion, a stylized flower, or a symbolic motif. Even covers made from the same kilim exhibit different moods, thanks to the varying patterns, colors, and weave structures in each section.
This process highlights the joy of composition—of harmonizing motifs and hues within a smaller frame—and offers a rare opportunity to own a truly original textile artwork. These covers are ideal for interior design enthusiasts, textile collectors, and anyone looking to add a cultural and visual focal point to their space. Whether used on a sofa, lounge chair, or bed, each cushion elevates its surroundings with character, warmth, and meaning.
The front panel is 100% wool, handwoven using traditional flatweave techniques, while the back is made of fine cotton fabric in soft, elegant tones such as light beige, pastel, and earthy brown. The contrast between the rustic front and refined back enhances the overall aesthetic, blending vintage authenticity with modern elegance. A concealed zipper closure ensures a clean and seamless look.
Please note: This listing is for the cover only. No cushion insert is included; it fits standard, commercially available cushion fillings. We recommend dry cleaning for maintenance, especially given the textile’s vintage nature.
