About the Item

This 19th-century Caucasian Karabagh rug features three bold floral medallions set against a deep chocolate-brown field, creating a striking interplay of glowing reds, apricots, and soft yellows. The central design is complemented by stylized blossoms, abstracted foliage, and small animal figures—a signature of village weavers from the Karabagh region. Natural dyes provide the piece with a rich, atmospheric palette that remains vibrant, giving the rug an immediate presence in any room. The border system, composed of geometric and floral elements, frames the composition with clarity and balance. For collectors and design-forward interiors alike, this rug stands out for its dramatic colour contrast, distinctive medallion layout, and expressive tribal character. The wool is soft and well-preserved, offering both decorative impact and lasting durability. Clean and ready for installation, it works beautifully as a focal point in living rooms, studies, or bedrooms. A highly engaging example of 19th-century Karabagh weaving, blending artistry, colour, and cultural heritage.

Vintage Karabagh area rug from the Armenian village weavers of the Caucasus mountains circa the early 1900s. The Karabagh rug has a wonderful and highly desirable and seeked allover pattern in an abrash brown background with a royal blue border with design accent colors in red, green, and yellow. It has a wonderful abrash brown/black field color which is a manifestation of the use of vegetable dyes which beautifully sets up the design of small flower heads in red, yellow, and green and variations of those colors resulting from the use of organic vegetable dyes which develop into various shades over time. The border is a gorgeous abrash royal blue. Truly a small gem from the Caucasus mountains.
