Superb Sumac at 50% short term discount. Investment collectible. Here an antique Sumac, Kazak, 145 years old, made with natural dyes and looking superb. Very good condition What is a Sumac? It is a type of kilim, with a hard finish, and hard wearing which were woven in Caucasian lands in the 19th and early 20th century. They are sought after because the kilim weave allows for a sharp pinpoint clarity in the design. And of course, for other artistic virtues. This distinct crispness is achieved by intricately wrapping the colored yarns around the structural foundation rather than simply interweaving them. As a result of this meticulous process, the reverse side features loose, shaggy thread ends that are a classic hallmark of authentic tribal production. The Sumac weave includes an extra wrapping weft and which makes these carpets thicker than most other kilim types.
