This exceptional example of early 20th-century Chinese weaving presents a striking juxtaposition of deep indigo and aged ivory tones. The overall presentation is characteristic of the highly refined textile production found among the finest antique rugs of the period. The field is dominated by a repeating pattern of stylized auspicious birds, likely cranes or phoenixes, rendered in faded cream against a dense, drop-shaped lattice of indigo and gold.
