About the Item

Old Chinese carpet of the city of Peking from the unusual format, elegantly decorated with branches of peony in bloom. For the oriental tradition, the meaning of the peony is linked to immortality, but its flowers are also an emblem of fugacity because the flowering lasts only a few weeks. It is a symbol of prosperity, honour, valour and nobility of spirit. It is a symbol of good luck and good wishes for a happy marriage. When it is in bloom it is a messenger of peace. Excellent state of conservation.
