About the Item

:: Roundel center and corner medallions are articulated through concentrated design density, each composed as a miniature still-life vignette featuring scholar's vases issuing flowering branches, archaic vessels, floral sprigs, and small figurative elements. These motifs evoke the Daoist and literati tradition of the scholar's studio, symbolizing cultivated refinement, longevity, and harmony with the natural world, also encompassing the border. Shadow design carving across the center field, faint, but present. Colors and shades include: Ivory, cobalt blue, navy blue, coffee brown, antique ivory, and more. Condition notes: Even, short pile height across. Most of the original side cord selvages are intact or restored. Fully secured sides and ends. Multiple areas of professional repile. One end measures 8'11" whereas the opposing measures 9'1". This variation is within normal margins for hand knotted rugs of this type, age, and size. Recently professionally cleaned ready for in-home use! Many years of enjoyment to come with this hand knotted Chinese Peking carpet made in China circa 1920's vintage. Size measures 9'1" x 11'6".
