Hand-knotted in wool originating from India circa 1890-1900, this regal 10x17 rug connotes a unique antique Agra rug from a rich history of weaving—an exciting new curation from Rug & Kilim. On the Design: Admirers of the craft may recognize this turn-of-the-century Agra as a “jail rug”, with a particular blend of English and Indian wool that enjoys a notably high-quality yarn and intricate detail like few provenances of its time—let alone for its spacious large size. The rug features an awe-inspiring all over floral pattern and central medallion sitting atop a delicious richest burgundy red field with a natural dimensionality and majesty beside botanical detailing in complementary beige-brown, forest green, sage green hues with pink and cream accents. Keen eyes will also note the influence from classic Polonaise rugs of the 17th century in its take on a venerated medallion pattern. Extremely collectible and gorgeously executed for its period—this a true connoisseur’s and collector’s rug among the few that remain of its caliber.
