74765 Contemporary Berber Moroccan Rug with Post-Modern Bauhaus Style. This hand knotted wool contemporary Berber Moroccan area rug with Postmodern Bauhaus style features a center row of stacked diamonds within diamonds flanked by zigzag lines creating a thin border. The zigzag lines are flanked by an outer row of stacked diamonds in solid colors. The all-over diamond pattern is spread across an abrashed field of blue and teal bands. It is enclosed with small black and beige ivory bands (dash-marks along the vertical sides). The tribal symbols of diamonds, lozenges, eyes, symbolize womanhood, beauty, fertility, and protection. The rectangular bands and zigzag lines along the sides traditionally represent snakes, which are seen as a male motif. In Moroccan rugs, male motifs often appear on the outer portions of the composition, framing and enclosing the female motifs. This presentation can be seen as symbolizing fertility, as well as protection and the sanctuary of the family. This depth of meaning presented in a bold, energetic form is what make Moroccan rugs such as this one such wonderful additions to contemporary interiors.
