About the Item

Late in the 20th century, limited rug weaving productions were set up in Egypt using excellent quality wools and dyes. Many of the carpets produced copied designs and colorations found in antique carpets that were popular at that time. Accordingly, the majority of these carpets were inspired by Turkish Oushaks, Persian Sultanabads, and Persian Serapi carpets. This example is an excellent rendering of an antique Serapi carpet, with a central geometric medallion flanked by well-spaced ornamentation and ivory spandrels on a madder field. 14' 0" x 10' 2".
