Brita Grahn "Blåvinge grågranit" Flat Weave Rug, Sweden 1965 Signed This piece is called "Blåvinge grågranit" and translates to "Blue Wing Grey Granite" in English. This is an overall compositions of chevron, triangle and square shapes in several tones of grey and tan, grey, brown and mixed heathered light granite grey . The design has an interesting sense of movement: the arrow and triangle shapes point from side to side and overlap with the squares, sometimes seeming to become houses, sometime roofs, sometime just abstract color patches. At the sides of the rug the colored triangles poke into the rug’s grey colored border. "Blåvinge" (Blue Wing) is likely a reference to the design's aesthetic, possibly evoking the colors or shapes of a bird's wings. "Grågranit" (Grey Granite) likely refers to the color palette and texture, suggesting a mix of grey tones reminiscent of granite stone. This carpet is approximately 290 x 211 cm. (114" x 83") These and other Rugs designed by Brita Grahn are recognizable for their crisp graphic repeating designs—and for her unusual practice of using her whole name— or at least her whole last name— as a signature.
