About the Item

72024 Vintage Turkish Oushak Rug, 10'02 x 12'05. This exquisite hand-knotted wool vintage Turkish Oushak rug is a testament to the enduring artistry and heritage of Anatolian weaving. Its central medallion, a masterful composition of intricate floral and angular motifs, radiates a sense of balance and refinement, drawing the eye to its harmonious design. Encased within layers of symmetrical ornamentation, the medallion is surrounded by a lush field of soft greens and creamy beiges, exuding tranquility and elegance. The meticulous craftsmanship, apparent in every precious knot, embodies the cultural richness and centuries-old traditions of Turkish rug-making. The earthy palette of this Oushak rug blends warm terracotta, pale greens, soft blues, and neutral beige tones, creating a harmonious interplay of colors that evoke the serene beauty of nature. This selection of hues, inspired by the Anatolian landscape, imbues the rug with a gentle warmth and softness, making it an inviting addition to any space. The subdued yet vibrant colors are masterfully applied to highlight the intricate botanical motifs, scrolling vines, and delicate arabesques that dance across the field. The border of the rug further accentuates its intricate artistry, featuring a dynamic sequence of stylized florals, serrated leaves, and rosettes in complementary tones. This rhythmic framing element enhances the rug's structural elegance and provides a striking contrast to the central field. The inner and outer guard bands, adorned with sawtooth and geometric meanders, add layers of complexity, underscoring the weaver’s dedication to detail. This interplay between geometric precision and flowing organic forms reflects the perfect balance of artistic expression and technical mastery characteristic of Oushak rugs. This vintage Turkish Oushak rug is not merely a decorative piece but a woven narrative of Anatolian culture, craftsmanship, and natural inspiration. Its timeless design, steeped in historical significance, offers a blend of tradition and modernity that can effortlessly elevate both classic and contemporary interiors. Perfect for grounding a living space or as a collector’s treasure, this woven wonder encapsulates the allure of Turkish weaving, serving as a reminder of the artistry and creativity that have defined Oushak rugs for generations. All examples used select Borsa silk which is the finest quality carpet silk. The Sultan required that all of the silk rugs woven in Hereke had to be signed with the name Hereke. These carpets were regularly woven for the aristocracy in Europe, Asia, and The Middle East. The design of this rug is unique because it is an interpretation of the famous 17th century Mughal carpet from India. The Mughal carpet was exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum and was illustrated in the book called flowers under foot, published by the Museum. The carpet has 1200 knots per square inch, and the entire field is woven of silver/metallic thread.
